Family planning is a right of every citizen and, therefore, you should know what it determines regarding this matter.

• The Unified Health System (SUS) must include as basic activities: assistance with conception and contraception, prenatal care, childbirth, puerperium and neonatal care, as well as the control and prevention of cancers (cervical-uterine, breast, prostate and penile);
• Voluntary sterilization is permitted in the following situations: men and women over 25 or with at least two living children. However, there is a minimum period of 60 days between the expression of will and the surgical procedure;

Does the health plan cover the IUD?

Since January 2008, all health plans are required to cover the placement of an IUD, whether hormonal or not.

What are the indications and contraindications of the IUD?

Any sexually active woman who does not wish to become pregnant in the short term can have an IUD inserted.

First of all, look for a gynecologist so that he can tell you which method is best for you.

Also, don't forget that no contraceptive method is 100% effective and, except for condoms, they do not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.

IUD contraindications

• Anatomical abnormalities of the uterus
• Active gynecological infection
• Uterine cancer: Women with endometrial or cervical cancer should not use an IUD.
• Gynecological bleeding of unclear origin:
• Copper IUD: contraindicated in cases of copper allergy.
• Hormonal IUD: should not be used by women who have had breast cancer in the last 5 years or liver disease, due to its hormones.
